Novels in chronological order

Here is a list of my novels in order of UK publication and then USA with their most recent ISBN numbers. I have also put colour coded asterisks against novels that are linked, together with an explanation of the link. Further down the page I have made groupings of suggested reading orders for people who like to read series or particular styles.

THE WILD HUNT

First published in 1990 and now re-edited and re-issued in the UK by Sphere Paperbacks in December 2008. Also available in e-book format ISBN978-0751540260 Set in the late 11thC Welsh Marches. The First of three linked novels. The other two are THE RUNNING VIXEN and THE LEOPARD UNLEASHED. *

THE RUNNING VIXEN

First published in 1991 and now re-edited and re-issued in the UK by Sphere Paperbacks in December 2009. Also available in e-book format ISBN 978-0751541359 Set in the early 12thC Welsh Marches. The second of three linked novels. The other two are THE WILD HUNT and THE LEOPARD UNLEASHED.*

THE LEOPARD UNLEASHED
First published in 1992 and now re-edited and re-issued in the UK by Sphere Paperbacks in 2010. ISBN 978-0751541366 Also available in e-book format. Set in the 12thC Holy Land and England. The third of three linked novels. The other two are THE WILD HUNT and THE RUNNING VIXEN. *

DAUGHTERS OF THE GRAIL
First published in 1994 as Children of Destiny and reissued in 2007 by sphere Paperbacks. Also available in e-book format. ISBN 0 7515 3899 x The story of the Albigensian Crusade told with mystical elements. It stands alone and is not linked to any other novel.

SHIELDS OF PRIDE
First published in 1994 hardcover by Michael Joseph. Re-edited and reissued by sphere paperback in December 2007. Also available in e-book format. ISBN 978-0751540277 Romantic adventure set in the mid-12th century England during the reign of Henry II. It stands alone and is not linked to any other novel.

FIRST KNIGHT
Published in 1996 by Pocket Books. A tie in adaptation of the script of the film that starred Sean Connery and Richard Gere. Out of print.

THE CONQUEST
First published in 1996 by LittleBrown in hardcover. Now available in Sphere paperbacks and e-book format. ISBN 978 0 7515 3941 7 A two-generation tale of Normans and Saxons in 11th century England. Stand alone.

THE CHAMPION
First published in 1997 by LittleBrown in hardcover. Now available in sphere paperback and e-book format. ISBN 07515 3869 8 A coming-of-age story set against the background of tournaments and the Royal Court in 13th century Normandy and England. Stand alone. Shortlisted for the Best Romantic Novel of the Year Award.

THE LOVE KNOT
First published in 1998 by LittleBrown in hardcover. Now available in Sphere paperback and e-book format. ISBN 07515 3811 6 The story of star-crossed lovers in 12th century England set against the backdrop of the fight between Stephen and Matilda. Stand alone.

LORDS OF THE WHITE CASTLE
First published in 2000 by LittleBrown hardcover. Now available in Sphere paperback and e-book format. ISBN 978-0751539394 Set in the late 12th century and early 13th. The true story of the baron who started the Robin Hood legend. Links into SHADOWS AND STRONGHOLDS, which although written afterwards, actually prequels this one. * Shortlisted for the Best Romantic Novel of the Year Award.

THE WINTER MANTLE
First published in 2002 by LittleBrown hardcover. Now available in Sphere paperback and e-book format. ISBN 978 0 7515 3840 3 Based on a true story. The marriage of a Norman lady and English earl in the aftermath of 1066. This one very loosely links into the FALCONS OF MONTABARD which is set after this one.* Shortlisted the Best Romantic Novel of the Year Award

The prequel to LORDS OF THE WHITE CASTLE but stands alone.* Long listed for the Best Romantic Novel of the Year.

THE GREATEST KNIGHT

A PLACE BEYOND COURAGE

Based on the true story of John FitzGilbert Marshal, father of William Marshal and a man of outstanding bravery. Links to THE GREATEST KNIGHT, and links by family ties into THE SCARLET LION, THE TIME OF SINGING, (titled FOR THE KING’S FAVOR in the USA) and TO DEFY A KING. * It can be seen as a prequel to THE GREATEST KNIGHT, but I prefer myself to see it as a stand-alone novel about a man who was remarkable in his own right.

TO DEFY A KING

The story of William Marshal’s daughter Mahelt and her marriage to Hugh Bigod, heir to the earldom of Norfolk. Can be seen as a sequel to THE TIME OF SINGING (Titled FOR THE KING’S FAVOR in the USA) and links into THE GREATEST KNIGHT and THE SCARLET LION, but is a stand-alone as well. Winner of the Romantic Novelists Association Prize for Best Historical Novel 2011. *

LADY OF THE ENGLISH
Published in June 2011 by Sphere hardcover and in September 2011 by Sourcebooks USA in paperback and e-book format. ISBN 978-1847442376 The story of Empress Matilda and Henry I’s second Queen Adeliza of Louvain between 1125 and 1148.

THE SUMMER QUEEN
The first in a trilogy about Eleanor of Aquitaine.  Published by Sphere in hardcover and electronic format 2013 and in paperback Summer 2014.

THE WINTER CROWN
