I’m thrilled today to be sharing with you, the cover for The Coming of the Wolf, due for publication on the 6th of August.
The Coming of the Wolf is the prequel to my first award winning published novel The Wild Hunt. The latter was the work that began my career as a professional, published author of historical fiction. It obtained me a leading London literary agent, a contract with a major publisher, and a Betty Trask Award, presented by HRH the Prince of Wales in the banqueting suite at Whitehall.
But before The Wild Hunt, there was its prequel – the story of Guyon FitzMiles’s parents, Miles and Christen. Many of the events in The Wild Hunt had their germination in The Coming of the Wolf. The work was never published because my editor felt it would have been a retro step at the time. However, it has always been unfinished business for me – the one that got away – and over the years I have rewritten and overhauled the work in spare moments, and now, here it is, forthcoming on 6th August 2020 with this beautiful cover.
Brief synopsis:
1069: When her manor of Ashdyke on the Welsh borders is attacked, Christen is forced to witness her husband’s murder and the pillaging of her lands at the hands of brutal Norman invaders. Among them is Miles le Gallois, Lord of Milnham-on-Wye. Having seen off a band of his fellow Normans, he halts the attack. But he has Christen’s brother under armed guard and a deal to offer: her brother’s freedom for her hand in marriage. To save her brother and her people, Christen agrees to the match, but then has to come to terms with what it entails.
Miles and Christen’s precarious union invites enemies from all sides, English, Norman and Welsh, and when Miles is summoned to a lengthy campaign by King William, Christen is left to watch his lands while wolves gather, chief among them her own brother. who brings news of a shocking betrayal . . .
