A very warm welcome to my newsletter page. I shall be writing a newsletter regularly  – althouh without committing to a set Timeline. Expect news, views, and tales from the cottage, some of them distinctly waggy courtesy of our terriers!

I have been waiting to post this inaugural newsletter until I was able to give you details of my next publishing deal which has been a long time in the negotiating as many  regular readers will know!

Now though,  it is time for a fanfare and a special glass of gin!
I am delighted to announce that I have signed a new book deal with LittleBrown on their Sphere imprint, It’s For three historical novels,  The first one, already handed in and at copy-editing stage is titled THE ROYAL REBEL.  I have moved slightly up the medieval timelines into the 14th century for these three novels.  My leading lady for the first two is called ‘Jeanette’, better known to history as Joan of Kent, cousin to King Edward III and mother of Richard II.  She lived a remarkable Life, especially in the matter of her three marriages, the first undertaken for love when she was little more than a girl.   A woman of charisma and resilience living in magnificent, but tough and dangerous times of great change; times of warfare, pandemic disease, economic uncertainty and social upheaval. Are you recognising the patterns? The more we go forward, the more nothing changes.  We just weave our own lives over repeating backgrounds.

In the third novel, I will be looking at the life of John of Gaunt through the women who knew him, majorly including Katheryn Swynford, made famous and illustrious by the wonderful historical work of Anya Seton.  I am not intending to compete with such a doyene, but to take a different facet of the jewel and turn it to the light.

I know other authors of historical fiction have covered the same women and subjects but we all have our own takes – which is, I hope, enriching for readers.    I am looking forward to writing my particular version, and hope I will do justice to those involved. The research has been proving fascinating and I have already acquired a substantial library of books and online articles to help me along the way, and will continue to do so.

I will have more news on the titles and publication dates as soon as I know more.  The first novel THE ROYAL REBEL is written and now going through the editorial process at my publishers – due for publication next September.

For American readers, I am delighted to say that my new works will be published in the US in all formats, and my backlist titles not published by Sourcebooks will also be coming to the US.

For listeners of audio books in the US – those are on their way and a contract has been agreed. I will let you know as soon as I know more details.
